Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is about 100 km from Belgaum, Karnataka. Tigers, black panthers, bears, elephants, bisons, and many other animal, reptile, and bird species galore in the sanctuary. As we went soon after monsoons, we could spot only jackal and mongoose. As in all wildlife sanctuaries, summer is the ideal time for animal sighting when they come to the periphery in search of water.

Traversing uneven path in a Mahindra jeep was bumpy. The jarring sound of the vehicle would’ve scared off the animals. It’s high time the authorities introduce Gypsies for safari. Due to shortage of vehicles, the forest department allows private vehicles for safari for a fee. So, if you’ve an SUV, you could explore the thick forest yourself, accompanied by an official guide.
